Memoir Class with Laura Munson

This memoir class with New York Times bestselling author Laura Munson is designed to help anyone who is currently writing, or wants to write, a memoir or a personal essay. In this two hour class you’ll get specific genre tips and solutions for the common stuck places for memoir writers: how to write past the fear of exposure, how to find the right structure, how to create narrative movement, how to lead by example in the telling of your story…and a lot more.

The class is divided into four parts:

Part #1

Voice: No one has your voice. No one. It’s not possible. I’ll guide you through a list of questions to pose to yourself and help you put your finger on the pulse of: Who is telling this story. And why.

Part #2

Structure: Structure is usually the most difficult part of writing a memoir. We’ll explore four structures that work best in creating a memoir.

Part #3 Q&A: This is when I answer the most common questions that might not have been covered in the other Parts.

  •  For example: the #1 question I get, outside of structure, is: “How do you handle keeping other people anonymous in a memoir?

Part #4: You’ll get two writing prompts that you can do during the class or at home. One will be on the personal essay, and the other will be on a memoir.

I hope that you will enjoy this class and join me on a Haven Writing Retreat in Montana or over on my online community, Haven Nest. Enrollment opens every six months.

Note: This class was originally led at the Pacific Northwest Writer’s Association annual event. Enjoy!
