Welcome To Haven Home!

Here's What To Expect & My Instructions For Getting The Most From The Course

I’m so glad that you have given yourself this tremendous gift! Soon you will be part of the Haven Home Community which will support you through the next eight weeks! Congratulations!

A few notes first: (managing your time)

  • Many of you are concerned about the time commitment. Not to worry!
    • The classes (video sessions) themselves take a half an hour to an hour.
    • Of course, you can always expand on your writing and I often give extra writing prompts at the end of the class sessions.
    • I also give you an additional weekly writing prompt on Wednesdays through our community, but it’s optional. If you choose to do the writing prompt, you should allow an additional half an hour to an hour.
    • If you engage in the FB community, that will take additional time, but hopefully it will be full of connection, support, delight, and even relief that you are finally in a community of kindred word wanderers!
    • As with anything, you get out of it what you put into it. There’s a lot of love and support for you in Haven Home, however you choose to do this course!

  • Many of you are also concerned about missing my Live Friday hour discussions with the expert guests. ALL of those sessions will be archived, and there won’t be a live Q&A section, as all of your questions will be pre-submitted. (info below) Of course, it’s always fun to watch something live, and there will be great synergy with all of my experts, as they are colleagues and friends. But that will also be captured in the recording.

Here’s how Haven Home works:

Tomorrow (January 18th) at 4:00 am PST/5:00 am MST/6:00 am CST/7:00 am EST…

  • I will roll out the intro videos and the first session, which is a half hour class. The first three weeks’ classes are each half an hour, sometimes divided into several videos, given the size of the video. ALL are meant to be done in one session. The following five weeks are each one hour classes. (same note as above) All of them are published at 7:00 am EST on Mondays. You can, of course, expand on your writing time for each class, making it longer if you’d like!
  • Tomorrow at 7:00 am EST I’ll also go Live with the Haven Home Community Facebook page! Please feel free to go there and introduce yourself. If you’re not on FB, you can join just for the express purpose of being part of the private Haven Home Community. You can even join with a different name if you want to protect your identity!
  • You can communicate there, or in the comments section of the actual course, but I feel that FB is the best place for interaction, posting what inspires you, etc. That’s my recommendation.
  • Each week at 7:00 am EST I will post my Monday Take Ten for Teaching intro video and Wednesday Writing Prompt, both on the FB page, and in the course itself. The Monday post will be a pre-recorded video. The Wednesday post will be a written prompt. You can do these on your own time, and again, they’re optional.
  • Each week at 1:00 pm EST I will host my Friday Live Discussion with the Experts on both the Haven Home Community Facebook page, and in the course itself. These will be archived so that you can watch at your convenience.
  • Be sure to email your questions for the experts to me by 5:00 MST each Wednesday and be sure that your email subject line says: #asktheexperts Please use this email: [email protected]

The Haven Home Library

    • This is where you will see all of the classes and courses.

  • You will see my Creating Haven course as well as the Haven Home Course. Feel free to do Creating Haven before you begin Haven Home, or anytime in the next 8 weeks. It helps to ground you for Haven Home, but it’s totally optional. You can do the four videos in one sitting! It’s very simple and soothing work… Writing shouldn’t have to be so hard. It can be hard and often is. But we can be kind to ourselves while we do it!

    • I release each video session on Mondays, whether or not you have finished the previous session. I will post the week’s session at 7:00 am EST. All are downloadable. None of them are live, so you can go at your own pace.
    • It’s best if you do each week’s session sooner than later in the week, so that you can share about your experience with your Haven Home Community!
    • Once I’ve published a session, it’s there in the Haven Home Library. You can do them over again if you’d like!
    • If for some reason you miss a week, please do each session in order, as they are designed to be comprehensive. In other words, each one builds to the next. In other other words: trust that “there’s a method to the madness…”
    • The Haven Home Companion Workbook is broken down by session, and available for download in each corresponding video session. Please be sure to use the workbook for clarification and extra information. That said, it is not meant to stand alone. The video sessions contain the main teaching.
    • Your Haven Home library contains sequential videos. In order to get to the next video, simply click on the button that says “mark as complete.” Then move on to the next video.
    • Please watch each video in sequence for full course comprehension.

  • You will find several introductory videos to set you up for success, before you start Session One. Please enjoy them before you start the course!

  • Remember, by the time you finish the course, you will have access to all of the videos.

I’m so thrilled to share Haven Home with you!

I will hold your hand all the way through!

Yours,

Laura
